Are Apartment Hotels the Future?

The hotel industry is getting more and more diverse by the day. The days when a typical hotel was a huge building with plenty rooms with a bed, TV, work desk, a little tea/ coffee station and en suite bathrooms are over.
Hotels have diversified now, probably due to the ever evolving customer’s trends. There’s a new and rapidly growing segment now: the Apartment Hotels sometimes called Aparthotels.
The apartment hotel has become a hot commodity as hoteliers work to compete with services such as Airbnb and accommodate increasing social distancing requirements. But what is the difference between a classic hotel stay and the apartment hotel guest experience?
What is an Aparthotel?
An Aparthotel or Apartment Hotel is typically a hotel that has some features of an apartment. At first, aparthotels were more appealing to long term, business travelers, but nowadays, or should I say, since the advent of Airbnb, they are appealing to both the business and leisure traveler.
What makes Aparthotels different from traditional hotels?
Well, aparthotels are a little different from traditional hotels in the following:
- Aparthotels have a self-catering kitchen, usually open plan with a lounge.
- Some aparthotels may offer less housekeeping service than traditional hotels. They don’t change linen as frequently as with traditional hotels.
- Some aparthotels require a week minimum stay
- Some aparthotels have 2 or even 3 bedrooms, which most traditional hotels usually would have inter-leading rooms in case of a family booking.
- Unlike traditional hotels, aparthotels don’t have dining areas.
